PebblPlan · Planning intelligence

Planning platforms linked the numbers. PebblPlan understands them.

The planning platforms kept every number in sync. PebblPlan keeps every number in context. Each figure carries its driver, its assumption, its owner, and its history, and every locked version keeps the numbers, formulas, and reasoning it was built with, exactly as you approved them. Ask it anything. It was there when every number was made.

A budget owner asks why Field Sales travel is 22% over budget. The agent answers with the driver, the assumption behind it, who set it and the version it changed in.

Locked means locked

The record never gets rewritten.

In most planning tools, a version is just a dimension. Restate last quarter’s actuals or fix a formula, and your approved budget quietly changes with it. In PebblPlan, every locked version keeps its own actuals and its own formulas. What you approved in March is still exactly what you approved in March.

Actuals stay with their version
Restated actuals flow into new versions, never into the plans you already committed to.
Formulas stay with their version
Improve the model today without rewriting how last year’s budget was calculated.
Locked can’t be undone
Updates go into a new version, so every comparison is honest.

Change the model freely. Your history stays exactly as it was.

Actuals has its own versions: Latest, which takes every load and adjustment, and frozen closes. A late reclass of minus 4 thousand on IT software in September posts to Latest. The FY27 Forecast reads Latest, so its September IT actual moves from 262 to 258. The Q1 board forecast is pinned to the September close and the FY27 Budget is locked, so neither changes.

When the business changes

The plan that survives the reorg.

Add a department, merge two cost centers, move a team between divisions. Finance makes the change once, and it reaches every open version together — or none of them, if it doesn’t fit one. Budget and forecast stay in step, and nobody rebuilds a model.

  • Locked versions and closes keep the structure they had.
  • Renames keep their data, and the contracts, imports, reports and formulas that read them follow.
  • Removing something still in use is refused, not silently dropped.
A planning grid of operating expenses by cost center for the FY27 Forecast. September has closed, so its column shows actuals. Finance added a new cost center, Customer Success, which appeared in every open version while the locked FY27 Budget kept its structure. The Customer Success owner submitted October to December through an agent, and every total recalculated.

Planning across the organization

Finance sets the contract. The agent sees it through.

Every budget owner gets a contract: what finance needs, in what shape, by when. Owners plan through their agent in plain language, in the chat they already use. The agent knows what the contract requires, so it keeps working with the owner until every piece is there. Nothing arrives at finance half-finished.

  1. 01

    Finance defines the contract

The inputs, the template, and the deadline for each owner.

  2. 02

    The owner plans by conversation

“I’m adding two nurses in April” becomes the right line items, in the right model.

  3. 03

    The agent closes the gaps

It knows what the contract still needs and asks for it, so the owner submits a complete plan.

  4. 04

    Finance reviews, not chases

Approve, comment, or send back, with the reasoning attached.

A marketing director pastes this year's vendor list and asks the agent to build the FY27 marketing budget. The agent reads the contract, imports the table, builds a Vendors module that posts to GL accounts, checks it against finance's target, and asks for approval to submit 2,412,000 against a 2.5 million target.

The agent checks a submission against its contract before it goes, and finance’s overview shows where every owner stands, contract by contract.

Drilling down on a budget cell, IT software in March, 12,000. It was submitted by Priya Shah, Director of IT, through her agent, under the Operating expenses contract, with the assumption that a data warehouse renewal moves from April to March. Finance asked about it on the cell, the agent answered and resubmitted, and Riley Park approved it. The history lists each revision and who made it.

Every number knows why it’s there

Nothing in your plan is just a number.

When a budget owner explains a change to their agent, PebblPlan records the reasoning with the number: the driver, the assumption, who made it, and when. That context travels with the figure into review, into the locked version, and into next year’s plan.

  • Assumptions are captured as you plan, not reconstructed at audit time.
  • Context survives turnover. A new manager inherits the budget and the thinking behind it.
  • Reviews move faster. Finance sees the why next to the what.

Planning intelligence in practice

It was there when every number was made.

Because PebblPlan understands the model, the contracts, the versions and the reasoning, anyone can ask it a question and get a straight answer.

CFO
“What’s left before we can close the FY27 budget?”
FP&A analyst
“How does today’s forecast differ from the locked budget, and why?”
Controller
“Who set the 4% merit increase, and what was it based on?”
Budget owner
“What do you still need from me, and by when?”
New manager
“Summarize my department’s budget and what’s pending.”
